10-minute wellness habits for the time-poor

28/02/2025

Between work, kids, inboxes that refill like a cursed goblet, and that ever-growing list of things we should be doing, who’s got time for an elaborate wellness routine?

The good news? You don’t need hours, only minutes. Wellness doesn’t have to be about finding extra time, just making the most of the time you have by scattering magical moments through your day like metaphorical breadcrumbs, like breadcrumbs leading you back to yourself.

Whether it’s a deep breath. A stretch. A moment of stillness, these 10 simple yet powerful rituals that take ten minutes or less, still deliver a hefty wellness punch.

1. Micro Meditation

Focus on breath work for five to 10 minutes a day. Sit, close your eyes, and inhale deeply but slowly, letting the air expand your lungs. Hold your breath for a moment. Then exhale slowly. Repeat! Even a micro meditation can calm your nervous system, ease tension, improve focus, and restore your balance.

2. Stretch

You don’t need a mat or the flexibility to twist yourself into a pretzel. All you need is to gently roll your shoulders, tilt your head, reach for the sky, and try touching your toes (no judgement if you don’t quite get there). You don’t even need ten minutes… just five can help to ease tension, improve flexibility, and increase blood flow to your muscles.

3. Hydrate regularly

Coffee is not water (sad, but true). But your body will thank you for chugging a glass of the clear stuff on the regular. Maybe throw in some lemon if you’re feeling bougie. Your body will thank you, your skin will glow, and you’ll feel slightly superior to your past dehydrated self.

4. Step Outside

Get out into the fresh air and feel the sun, or rain, on your skin. Nature has a way of helping you to press pause, if only for a few minutes. Bonus points if you leave your phone behind and properly soak in the world around you.

5. Walk on

Whether it is a couple of laps around your office, a brisk stroll up and down the stairs, or a quick jaunt around the block, a short, purposeful walk boosts circulation, sharpens focus, and lifts your mood. Einstein was a big walker. Just saying.

6. Dance it out

Pop on a song that’s impossible to sit still to. Sway, tap your foot, and have a full-blown dance party for ten minutes. You’ll feel ridiculous and fantastic in equal measure.

7. Mindful massage

Treat yourself to a hand massage for five to 10 minutes, focusing on your palms, wrists, and fingertips. This simple self-massage technique can help you to reduce tension by activating pressure points which help alleviate stress and improve circulation.

8. Check-in

Take ten minutes to connect and let someone know you’re thinking of them. Call a friend you’ve been out of touch with or thank someone for something small but meaningful. Human connection is an invisible thread that holds us up. Don’t ignore it.

9. Write it down

Grab a notebook and pen and allow your thoughts to flow freely. Jot down a few things you're grateful for, a small victory you're extra proud of, or simply brain dump whatever is swirling in your mind. It’s like a mini reset for your brain, no therapist required.

10. Just be

Close your eyes. Stop scrolling, stop planning and stop doing. Just be. For ten minutes, just exist. It’s weirdly hard but deeply worth it.
